In Memory of Anderea Saavedra

Anderea Saavedra was born July 11, 1996. She was only 13 years old when she entered eternal rest on March 19, 2010.

Andrea took dance at Chrissy’s Dance Academy from 2005-2006 before moving to New York for treatment. She has been fighting for 3 years and received her treatment at New York Memorial Sloan Hospital.Andrea was also the little sister of our long time teacher, Ms. Pam.

Andrea is remembered by her friends and family here. Many remember her in their school and dance classes. Andrea was laid to rest at The Gates of Heaven Cemetery in New York on March 24, 2010 in a service that had everyone wearing bright colors in her celebration of life.

Please help us in keeping her spirit alive.

2010 Recital Information

Hello! We are quickly approaching our 6th Annual Recital!

The dress rehearsal is June 25 (Friday) at Trinity University’s Laurie Auditorium. The evening begins at 6:30. When you arrive, find a seat in the theater for announcements and information. Dress rehearsal is full hair, make-up, & costume. This is to re-assure the dancers that if we have any costume or hair malfunctions, they can be fixed on recital night!

Dress rehearsal is a very casual atmosphere. Your dancer will arrive in their first costume. We will be doing the Finale first, so that when your child is completed with their performances, you may leave and get a good night’s rest for the big show on Saturday!

The recital is the next day on June 26 (Saturday) at Trinity University’s Laurie Auditorium. The doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the show begins promptly at 6:30. This should give you enough time to get your child situated in the dressing room, say your good lucks, and find a seat in the theater. You will also be able to pick-up any flowers, recital t-shirts, and order a DVD when you arrive. The earlier you come, the better chance you will get to grab a seat, visit the tables, and comfortably enjoy the evening.

There will be reserved seating for our major sponsors who paid extra for the front & back page of our program, and also the Premiere Dance Co. families. These mothers work backstage and are unable to see the show that night. In return, their families will have reserved seating at the front of the theater.

On recital night, all dancers will be backstage the ENTIRE EVENING. This includes intermission! The only parents allowed backstage will be the parent volunteers that signed up at the studio. They will have a badge that will permit them access to backstage. This is for the safety of your children. There are many children in the dressing rooms, this way we know at all times who is back there. If you are not a parent volunteer, you will not be allowed back stage.

All dancers will get dropped off in their respective dressing rooms. Dressing rooms will be cleared of parents at 6:10. Please be sure that your child is in place by then if you would like to walk them back. Your dancer can be picked up on stage after Finale. Older dancers (Level 5 and up) will be dismissed from the stage to go to their dressing rooms. Dressing rooms will be re-opened for parents & family immediately following the Finale. Level 4 & younger will be picked up on stage immediately following the Finale. They will be seated with their parent volunteer until the entire class has been picked up.

Please be aware that there is a change for the pre-school dancers. This year, they must remain backstage the ENTIRE evening. This is different than in the past! You are responsible for noting this change. NO DANCERS may leave the backstage area at any time during the show. If you are not able to stay the whole night, please let Chelsea know to remove you from participating in the recital. Do not ask Chrissy or any other staff member on the night of recital to let your dancer leave early, because your answer will be no. We can not safely keep track of your children if we allow some to leave.

You will need to have your dancer’s bag and ALL costume parts CLEARLY labeled with their name. This will help parent volunteers when it’s time to change, and help on getting pieces mixed up. I advise packing your child dry and easy snacks for the night. Things like chips, pretzels, goldfish, and dry cereal are great ideas! Also, a bottled water. You can also pack reading books, coloring books, cards, board games, or other easy activities to pass the time. We will also have a large blow up screen and movie for all those dancers backstage! I would not recommend having your child bring electronic games or expensive IPODS. We cannot be responsible for stolen items and there is no way to lock them up when it’s your child’s time to perform.

If your dancer is in more than 1 number help us be sure that the dancer has at least 3 numbers in between to change.

Parent Volunteers please read the binder in the office today to see if you are able to be a backstage volunteer!

I know that is a lot of information, feel free to flag one of us down, shoot me an e-mail, or give us a call if you have any questions.
